An Evening Light in the Kitchen

Our kitchen never gets full sun. In the morning the rays of dawn (as Homer would say, the rosy fingers of Dawn) reach out and take hold of the rain gutters and the window panes of the front of our house. In the evening a long light bathes the front door. But the poor kitchen seems condemned to a life of electric light fixtures and the shadow-light that stretches out behind our house. And yet, despite the fact it is always in shadow, there is a lovely late afternoon and evening light that takes hold of the kitchen, as if to beckon us away from the rushing bustle of the day and in the after-light of the settling sun to be a balm of quiet.

Time

"Clocks slay time... time is dead as long as it is being clicked off by little wheels; only when the clock stops does time come to life." - William Faulkner

I Could Have Danced All Night

"I could have danced all night
And still have begged for more.

I could have spread my wings
                                                   And done a thousand things
                                                         I've never done before..."

Tulip Ears

One day in late March I looked out of my living room window. There was nothing particularly unique about this action, I often sit at the table when doing my homework and watch the street in front of my suburban house. It was a haze of warm spring sunshine there, a haze and a breath and that muddied earth where green and gold begins to grow together. There is bed of perennials there that hides behind the overgrown euonymus shrubs-- where in the tulips grow straight backed, towards the sun. It was this particular sight that drew me out. All along the edge of the grass these stalks had shot up, their leaves, like rabbits' ears, created delicate shadows and sun patches. Early spring tulip leaves exist, it seems, to help the hide the March hares.

In Hope of Spring

White must be the loveliest lack of color,
it has such a way of transporting one to a place
clean and sweet and pure.

This is just a shot of a beautiful little floral arrangement
my friend Ashley did for another friend's baby shower.
I thought it was dear at least :)
